This past week was Summer Faith Formation Week here at St. Augustine’s. Using the exploration of the Beatitudes, twenty-seven students from grades 6-10 and five catechists spent time together in prayer, discussion, study and play. Fr. Tom and the Morning Daily Mass attendees welcomed our students on Monday morning at Daily Mass and then our students hosted a coffee hour in the Gathering Room. In small groups throughout the week, students and their catechists studied each Beatitude in depth, looking at not only what Jesus meant by his words and actions but also considering what these Beatitudes mean for us living now in 2017. We compared the Beatitudes and the Ten Commandments. We studied the Key Principles of Catholic Social Teaching, developed to help us truly LIVE the Beatitudes. Sandwich-making for The Samaritan Center was one way our students put into action some of what they learned. We also discussed ways our teens would like to use their gifts and talents in the upcoming year. It has been a great week learning and growing together in our shared Catholic faith.
